3 Of The Best Cake-Based Film Scenes

Every now and again there comes around a film which involves cake like no other.

Whether it be Bruce Bogtrotter stuffing his face in Matilda or the infamous apple pie incident during Apple Pie, cake has frequently been used in films to add a certain something to the picture.

Join us as we take a detailed look at three films to have done exactly that, featuring cake to create a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.

1 – Matilda.

We may have only just mentioned it but, if you’re a cake fan, it’s pretty hard to forget the Bruce Bogtrotter scene from Matilda.

After stealing a slice of cake from Miss Trunchbull’s office, Bruce is forced to eat an entire chocolate fudge cake in front of the school as payback.

While the cake may have looked pretty delicious at first, the act of watching poor Bruce eating it in one sitting was pretty stomach-turning and certainly enough to put us off… for at least a few hours.

2 – Bridesmaids.

While Bridesmaids may largely be known for being a laugh out loud comedy, it’s not without its more sombre moments.

Amongst the mayhem that the bridesmaids get up to, at one point in the movie our heroine Annie hits something of a low point when everything seemingly isn’t going to plan.

In an attempt to give herself a boost, she spends an entire scene putting her cake decorating skills to the test, crafting a single, beautifully-formed cupcake.

It’s rather impressive too and is certainly one we’d be proud of here at Cakes By Robin.

3 – Inglourious Basterds.

OK, so this one doesn’t feature an actual cake per se but it does focus on a particularly popular dessert.

During Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 epic Inglourious Basterds, we see our heroine Shoshanna enjoying a pretty delicious-looking apple strudel with her old nemesis SS Colonel Hans Landa.

However, all is not as it seems, as it transpires that Young Shoshanna had actually narrowly escaped the notorious colonel four years prior. This, in turn, sets up a nerve-racking scene that leaves the viewer wondering whether she’s going to finish her strudel before he catches on…
